"Expedition: Fashion from the Extreme"
Expedition: Fashion from the Extreme examines high fashion inspired by clothing made for survival
in the most inhospitable environments on earth and beyond. Today’s luxurious parkas trace their roots
to the “heroic era” of polar navigation (1890 to 1922), while down-filled “puffer” coats and backpacks
were originally perfected for extreme mountain climbing in the mid-twentieth century. Experimental,
high tech materials made for exploration to otherworldly realms — such as neoprene (deep sea)
and Mylar (outer space) — made their way onto the runway.
To be held September 15, 2017 – January 6, 2018

To be held December 5, 2017 – May, 2018

signs of wear, will highlight the aberrant beauty in flawed objects.

"Past Is Present: Revival Jewelry"
Whether copying or choosing motifs to reinterpret, jewelers have always looked to the past for inspiration.
The practice became popular in the 19th century, as designers like Castellani, Giacinto Melillo and Eugene Fontenay
began reviving examples of ancient ornaments, newly unearthed in archaeological excavations. Examine more than 4,000 years
of jewelry history through about 70 objects — both ancient and revival.

“Botticelli and the Search for the Divine,” organized by the Muscarelle Museum of Art at the College of William & Mary
and Italy’s Metamorfosi Associazione Culturale, explores the dramatic changes in the artist’s style and subject matter—from
poetic depictions of classical gods and goddesses to austere sacred themes—reflecting the shifting political and religious
climate of Florence during his lifetime.
